DDNS Subdomains
Allocate and manage dynamic DNS subdomains for your PodWarden instances, on PodWarden domains or on your own Cloudflare zone

What you see
URL: /dashboard/ddns (requires login)
The DDNS page lets you allocate subdomains for your PodWarden instances. You can use the PodWarden parent domains (listed in the allocation dropdown and under Domain Quotas) or, on Pro and Enterprise, your own Cloudflare zones (Your domains). When your instance connects to Hub, it reports its public IP. Hub automatically updates the DNS record via Cloudflare, so your services are always reachable at a stable hostname even if your IP changes.
The page has a header with the title and an "Allocate Subdomain" button. Below that are your allocated subdomains (or an empty state with setup instructions), the Your domains section, and the Domain Quotas strip for PodWarden domains. If Cloudflare rejected the token of one of your own domains, a red banner at the top of the page names the domain and offers Replace token.
Authentication required. The DDNS page is only accessible to logged-in users. If you land on this page without being authenticated, you are redirected to the login screen. Once authenticated, the page loads your subdomain list without showing intermediate error states.
Fields / columns
Each subdomain entry shows:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| FQDN | The full domain name (e.g. swift17.example.com) |
| Status | Current DNS record status |
| Slug type | auto (system-generated) or custom (user-chosen) |
| IP address | The current IP address the subdomain points to |
| Last updated | When the DNS record was last updated |
| Created | When the subdomain was allocated |
| Last error | Error message if the last DNS update failed (shown only on error) |
Available actions
| Action | Where | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Allocate Subdomain | Page header button | Opens a modal to allocate a new subdomain |
| Release | Trash icon per subdomain | Deletes the subdomain and its DNS record. Requires confirmation. |
Allocate subdomain modal
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Domain | Dropdown to select the parent domain. Your domains are listed first, then PodWarden domains. A frozen or unusable domain of yours is shown as "(unavailable)". |
| Custom Slug / Name | Optional. On a PodWarden domain: 3-30 characters, lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens, reserved words blocked; custom slugs need a paid plan. On your own domain: any single label of 1-63 lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens (www is fine), no limit on how many. Leave empty for an auto-generated name (e.g. swift17). |
| Preview | Shows the full FQDN based on your slug and selected domain |
Your domains
Pro and Enterprise organizations can bring their own Cloudflare zone ("Bring your own domain"). For the token permissions, limits and what happens on downgrade or organization deletion, see Hub DDNS: Your own domains.
Each domain card shows the domain, its badges, the subdomain count (no limit), the zone ID and when it was added.
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Verified ✓ (date) | The token passed verification; the date is the last successful verification |
| Token rejected | Cloudflare rejected the stored token (revoked, expired, or lost permissions). Updates have stopped; replace the token. |
| Unverified | The token has not been verified yet |
| Paused | You paused the domain: no new subdomains can be allocated on it |
| Disabled by PodWarden | PodWarden staff disabled the domain. It can't be resumed from your organization; contact support. |
| Frozen (plan) | Your plan no longer includes your own domains. Records in your zone are kept; upgrade to resume updates. |
| Action | Who | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Add domain | Owner, admin | Opens the add modal: domain, Cloudflare API token (hidden as you type), optional zone ID, and a "How to create the token" guide. Hub verifies the token before saving. Disabled with an "available on Pro" note on the Free plan. |
| Replace token | Owner, admin | Verifies and stores a new token for the domain |
| Re-verify | Owner, admin | Re-checks the stored token and updates the badge |
| Pause / Resume | Owner, admin | Stops or allows new allocations on the domain |
| Remove | Owner, admin | Confirms with the number of DNS records that will be deleted from your zone, then releases every subdomain on the domain, deletes their records and the stored token |
Members see the same list read-only.
Status badges
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | DNS record is live and being updated |
| Pending | Subdomain is allocated but DNS record has not been created yet |
| Error | The last DNS update failed. Check the error message for details. |
| Suspended | Subdomain has been suspended by an administrator |
Tier limits
| Tier | Subdomains on PodWarden domains | Custom slugs | Your own domains |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 1 | No | No |
